Born into a family of immigrants, Marisol’s early years were a symphony of challenges, woven with the values of unity, resilience, and justice.
Her parents, union members, instilled in her a deep sense of responsibility—not only to survive but to uplift the community she loved.
Marisol’s journey wasn’t an easy one.
At just 25, she found herself a single mother, armed with a degree in psychology and women's studies, and a burning belief that the personal is political.
With every setback, she saw not defeat, but a reason to rise higher.
Fueled by her experiences, Marisol realized that the system would only change if people like her—those with both lived experience and a passion for justice—took the lead.
In 2005, she did exactly that, winning a seat on the Lennox School District Board of Trustees.
This wasn’t just about holding office; it was about becoming a voice for the people whose voices often went unheard.
She fought tirelessly to protect classrooms from budget cuts, not just as a board member, but as a mother who understood that every child’s future hinges on education.
And when cuts came knocking at the doors of hardworking teachers and staff, Marisol stood firm—the only board member to vote against measures that would sacrifice education for expedience.
Through her advocacy, Marisol has transformed Lennox schools by saving teachers’ jobs and creating partnerships with community colleges and introducing innovative programs like the Academy of Business, building a bridge between dreams and opportunities for students across the district.
